California IDEX Practice Exam

The role of the interior designer in the review of shop drawings primarily involves checking for compliance with design intent. This means that they must ensure that the shop drawings align with the overall vision and specifications of the project. Their focus is on verifying that the proposed materials, finishes, and construction methods reflect the original design intentions, rather than creating original drawings or having the final approval.

While minor revisions may occur during the review process, the designer’s main responsibility is to assess whether the details presented in the shop drawings fulfill the design criteria established earlier in the project. Final approval is typically the responsibility of the architect or an authority overseeing the project, rather than the interior designer. Thus, being attuned to design intent ensures that the final installation meets the aesthetic and functional goals set forth at the beginning of the project.
